2021年4月26日（月）今日の天気は晴れ。週末もとても良い天気でした。コロナのせいで緊急事態宣言（state of emergency）が出ていて、レストランやデパートには行けませんが、外を散歩したりすることはできます。ワクチンが打てるまであと少しですね、みなさん、頑張りましょう。

今日のトピックは「おじぎ」です。お辞儀 = to bow
今回もおもしろいトピックをありがとうございます。
みなさんも知っている通り、日本人はよくお辞儀をします。お辞儀は、色々なシーンで見られますね。
例えば、どんな場面（シーン）でしょうか？
まずは、目上の人と会った時や、会社の人と会った時ですね。
When you meet a person who is older or in a higher position, and also when you meet a person from your company.
あとは、親戚にも挨拶をする時はお辞儀をします。You also bow when you meet and greet your relatives.
まぁ友達以外の人には、だいたいお辞儀をしますね。

それからもちろん、お店やレストランですね。特にデパートはとても厳しい教育がされているので、デパートの人はかなり丁寧なお辞儀をしてくれます。

レストランは、レストランのスタイルによるかな。カジュアルな居酒屋とかカフェでは、そんなにたくさんお辞儀はしないかも。
それから、新幹線や電車の中の駅員さんや、ビールとかお弁当を売っている人がおじぎをすることも有名ですね。
新幹線では車両を移動するたびにお辞儀をするので、とても大変そうです。

あとは、日本では悪いことをした時、謝りたい時にも深くお辞儀をします。特に有名人（celebrity）とか政治家（politician）が謝る時は、カメラの前で本当に深く長くお辞儀をします。

私もよくします。「あ〜すみません」とか「ありがとうございます」と言いながら、電話なのに、お辞儀をしてしまいます。笑

さて、みなさん。お辞儀にも色々な種類があることを知っていますか？
一番軽いお辞儀は、会釈（えしゃく）。15 度くらいの角度です。軽い挨拶をする時に会釈をします。
You do えしゃく when you greet somebody lightly.
「あ、どうも」「こんにちは〜」と言いながら、会釈をします。
何も言わない人もいますが、これも大丈夫。
あとは、軽く「ありがとう」と言いたい時も、会釈をします。
その次は、30度くらいの角度でお辞儀をすることです。これは普通の、一般的な（general）お辞儀ですね。よく「ありがとうございます」という時に、このお辞儀をします。
女の人は手をお腹の前に置いて、この三十度のお辞儀をするともっと丁寧に見えます。手は、左手を上に、右手を下に置くのがマナーです。

店の人はだいたい、このお辞儀をします。
そしてもっと深いお辞儀は45度くらいの角度ですね。
自分のお腹が見えるくらいお辞儀をします。Get your head down until you can see your belly.
このお辞儀は、「本当にありがとうございます」と言いたい時や「本当にごめんなさい、申し訳ありません」と言いたい時に使います。
それから、神社やお寺（shrine, temple）でお参りをする時（when you pray）も、このお辞儀をした方がいいですね。
その次にもっと深いお辞儀は、90度くらいの角度です。
もうほとんど顔が見えなくなるくらいまで、お辞儀をします。Get your head down until we can’t see your face.
これは、深く謝りたい時（ごめんなさいと言いたい時）に使います。
政治家や有名人がカメラの前で謝る時は、このお辞儀です。
お辞儀をしたまま、３０秒とか１分くらい頭を下げたままの人もいます。Some people get down their head and stay for 30 seconds or sometimes for 1 minutes.
頭を上げてください、と言いたくなりますね。
最後に、一番深いお辞儀は、土下座です。みなさん、この言葉を知っていますか？土下座する。
土下座は、床（floor）や地面（ground）の上に正座して、（sit on your heels）頭を地面につけて、手も頭の近くにおきます。
これは、本当に悪いことをしてしまって、自分が100%悪いです。許してください、と言いたい時に使います。
よく映画やドラマの中で土下座している人を見ますが、普通の生活では全然見ませんね。でもたぶん、どこかの会社とかね、やくざの世界では土下座をする人もいるかもしれませんね・・・・
ちなみに、スマホ（smart phone）の絵文字には土下座の絵文字がありますよね。
私はこれをよく使います。ありがとう🙇♀️とか、ごめん🙇♀️とか、よろしく🙇♀️いう言葉と一緒に、この絵文字を使うことが多いです。笑
