今日のトピックは、漢字です。
みなさん、漢字が好きですか？毎日勉強していますか？それとも、難しいから勉強したくないですか？
みなさんは、どうやって漢字を勉強していますか？
今日は、日本人がどうやって漢字を勉強したのか、そして外国の人はどうやって漢字を勉強したらいいのか。そんな話をしたいと思います。

日本では、小学校から漢字を習い始めます。小学校 = elementary school ですね。
小学校は1年生から6年生までで、その6年の間にだいたい１０００個くらいの漢字を勉強しなければなりません。
でも、学校の授業だけで漢字を勉強するわけではありません。It doesn’t mean we study Kanji only in our class. もちろんクラスで漢字を勉強したこともありましたが、私たちは漢字をほとんど家で練習していました。We practiced Kanji mostly at home.
1年生から6年生までの漢字ドリルがあって、宿題として毎日漢字を練習しなければなりませんでしたね。
もちろん、宿題は嫌いでしたが、毎日１、２ページだけだったので（たぶん・・・）そんなに大変じゃなかったんです。
2年生、3年生、と学年が上がると(the grade goes up)、教科書（textbook）の漢字のふりがな（small Hiragana next to Kanji showing how to read it）がだんだん少なくなっていきます。
それで、その漢字が読めない時は、ちゃんと調べてもう一度練習して覚えます。
たまに学校で漢字のテストがあったので、テストの前はいつもよりもっと頑張って勉強していましたね。
そうして、自然にたくさんの漢字が覚えられるようになりました。

じゃあ、外国の人はどうやって漢字を勉強したらいいのでしょうか？
日本の小学生と同じように、毎日１ページずつ漢字ドリルをした方が良いと思いますか？
日本語の試験 JLPT N1に合格しするために、12年くらいかかります。。。
１２年間も勉強したくないですよね。
実は、漢字を早く覚えられる良いアイデアがあるので、これをみなさんに紹介しますね。
最初は覚えられなくても、いろいろ書いてみましょう！Let’s just try to write Kanjis even if you can’t memorize all of them.
覚えなくても大丈夫です。たとえば教科書にある漢字を１０個書いて意味を調べたら、どんどん楽しくなってきて、１０個書いて９個忘れても、きっとその中の１つは自然に覚えているかもしれません。
アプリを使って、読む練習をしてみましょう！Let’s try to use Kanji App to practice how to read.
漢字の書き方がわからなくても、まずは読む練習だけで大丈夫です。漢字が読めると、日本の教科書とか、アニメとかドラマで、「あ、この漢字知ってる！」ってなって、漢字が便利だということに気が付けるはずです。おすすめのアプリはWani KaniとAnki です。特にWani Kaniの有料版（a paid version which is called subscription plans.） は、クオリティが高いし勉強しやすいし、おすすめです。
習字をやってみましょう！Let’s try to do calligraphy! 今はオンラインの習字レッスンなどもあると思います。習字で漢字をゆっくり楽しみながら書くことで、その漢字をもっと簡単に覚えられると思います。難しい漢字でも、習字なら書くのが楽しいと思います。

________ Today’s topic is Kanji.
Do you like kanji, everyone? Do you study every day? Or do you want to study because it’s difficult? How do you all study Kanji? How did Japanese learn Kanji today, and how should foreigners study Kanji? I would like to talk about that.

In Japan, we start learning kanji from elementary school. Elementary school = elementary school. Elementary school is from 1st grade to 6th grade, and you have to study about 1000 kanji during those 6 years. However, studying kanji is not just about school classes. It does n’t mean we study Kanji only in our class. Of course, I also studied kanji in class, but we practiced kanji mostly at home. We practiced Kanji mostly at home. There was a kanji drill for grades 1 to 6, and I had to practice kanji every day as my homework. Of course, I didn’t like my homework, but it wasn’t that hard because I only had one or two pages every day (probably …). As the grade goes up to the 2nd and 3rd grades (the grade goes up), the kanji furigana (small Hiragana next to Kanji showing how to read it) in the textbook gradually decreases. So, if you can’t read the kanji, look it up and practice again to remember it. Sometimes I had a kanji test at school, so before the test I was studying harder than usual. As a result, I was able to learn many kanji naturally.

So how do foreigners study kanji? Do you think it’s better to do one page of kanji drills every day, just like Japanese elementary school students? If you want to pass the Japanese Language Examination JLPT N1, you have to learn 2000 kanji, but it takes 12 years for Japanese to learn 2000 kanji. I have been in elementary school, junior high school and high school for 12 years. But you don’t want to study kanji for 12 years, do you?
Actually, I have a good idea to learn kanji quickly, so I will introduce this to everyone.
1. Even if you can’t remember at first, let’s write various things! Let ’s just try to write Kanjis even if you ca n’t memorize all of them. You don’t have to remember. For example, if you write 10 kanji in a textbook and look up the meaning, it will become more and more fun, and even if you write 10 and forget 9 of them, you may remember one of them naturally. 2. Let’s practice reading using the app! Let ’s try to use Kanji App to practice how to read. Even if you don’t know how to write kanji, you can just practice reading. If you can read kanji, you will notice that kanji is useful in Japanese textbooks, anime, and dramas, saying “Oh, I know this kanji!”. Recommended apps are Wani Kani and Anki. In particular, the paid version of Wani Kani (a paid version which is called subscription plans.) Is highly recommended because it is of high quality and easy to study. 3. Let’s do calligraphy! Let ’s try to do calligraphy! I think there are online calligraphy lessons now. I think that you can learn the kanji more easily by writing while enjoying the kanji slowly in calligraphy. I think it’s fun to write calligraphy, even if it’s difficult kanji.
