It's been raining a lot lately.
It often rains when the seasons change, doesn't it?
Typhoons are also common in September.
But the temperature is just right, so I like this time of year.

They set up tents, cook food right there, and sell it to people.
Have you ever eaten something from a festival stall?
Do you know what kind of food they sell at Japanese festival stalls?
Popular foods include yakisoba (fried noodles), takoyaki (octopus balls), grilled corn, shaved ice, chocolate-covered bananas, franks (frankfurters), French fries, and more...
Personally, I think there are two types of festival stalls.
The first type is traveling stalls called "*tekiya*."
The second type is stalls set up outside by local restaurants and cafes especially for the festival.
The "*teki*" (的) in the word "*tekiya*" means "target."
Originally, it referred to stalls offering target-shooting games using bows and arrows at festivals.
Nowadays, all traveling stalls—including those selling yakisoba or takoyaki—are called "*tekiya*."
Now, "*tekiya*" have an image of being connected to the yakuza or organized crime groups.
In the past, that was actually true.
However, nowadays they are strictly regulated by the police, so it's hard to tell whether yakuza members are still working at tekiya stalls today.
However, since the people running "*tekiya*" stalls aren't professional chefs, to be honest, I'm a little scared to eat food from them. 😂
I've never gotten a stomachache from them, but somehow, it still makes me feel uneasy.
Sometimes, I see raw meat left outside instead of being kept in a refrigerator. Scary! No way!
That's why I prefer to buy food from the second type of stall—the ones operated by local restaurants selling food outside for the festival.
Food from restaurants is cooked by professionals, tastes great, and is safe to eat.
When you go to a festival in Japan, I hope you all enjoy the stall food!
Make sure to check if it looks safe before eating so you don't get a stomachache! 😂
