みなさんは、日本で働きたいですか？働きたくないですか？

日本で働くのは、難しいと思いますか？

Do you want to work in Japan? Or don’t you want to?Do you think working in Japan is difficult?

日本で働くためには、まず、ビザが必要ですね。

ビザは日本語で「在留資格」といいます。

在留：staying in Japan as a foreigner （外国人として日本に住むこと）

資格：status, permission, eligibility

To work in Japan, first you need a visa.Visa in Japanese is called "zairyū shikaku" (在留資格).

在留資格には、いろいろな種類があります。

今日は、日本で働くことができる在留資格（ビザ）について話します。

There are many types of zairyū shikaku (statuses of residence).種類：type

Today, I will talk about the types of visas (statuses of residence) that allow you to work in Japan.

日本で働くことができる在留資格には、大きく分けて4つあります。

大きく分けて4つ：Roughly divided into four categories

分ける：to divide

There are four main types of status of residence that allow you to work in Japan.

1つ目：仕事ビザ！※「仕事ビザ」は公式の名前じゃありません。

First: The work visa! (Note: "work visa" is not the official name.)

まず、日本にある会社に応募します。

応募する：to apply

日本の会社（Sony、Nintendo etc.）だけじゃなくて、たとえば日本にあるアメリカの会社（Google、Apple、Microsoft etc.）とか、韓国の会社（Samsung、LG etc.）なども、「日本にある会社」です。

First, you apply to a company in Japan.To apply = ōbo suru (応募する)Not only Japanese companies like Sony or Nintendo, but also foreign companies in Japan like Google, Apple, Microsoft (American companies) or Samsung, LG (Korean companies) count as “companies in Japan.”

採用されたら、次に、どんな在留資格（仕事ビザ）で働くことができるかを会社と確認します。

採用する：to hire / 採用される：to be hired

確認する: to confirm, make sure

If you get hired, next you confirm with the company what kind of work visa (status of residence) you can use to work.

仕事ビザには、仕事の内容によっていろいろな種類があります。

たとえば、エンジニアのビザ、通訳のビザ、経理のビザ、料理人のビザ、介護のビザ、教師や教授のビザ、研究員のビザ、医者のビザ、、、

いろいろな仕事がありますよね。

There are many types of work visas depending on the kind of work.For example, engineer visa, interpreter visa, accountant visa, cook visa, caregiver visa, teacher or professor visa, researcher visa, doctor visa...There are many different jobs.

もし、良い学歴や高い年収がある人は、もっと良い「仕事ビザ」をもらうことができます。この「仕事ビザ」を持っていたら、「永住権」（permanent residency）をもらうのが簡単になります。

学歴：academic background

年収：yearly income

If you have a good academic background or a high income, you can get a better work visa. Having this work visa makes it easier to get permanent residency (eijūken).

最初は、1年間の仕事ビザをもらうことが多いです。

そして更新する時に、仕事や生活が安定していたら、3年間や5年間のビザをもらうことができます。

もらう：to get, to receive

最初：at first

更新する：to renew

安定する：be stable

Usually, you get a one-year visa at first.When you renew it, if your work and life are stable, you can get a 3-year or 5-year visa.

2つ目：留学ビザ！※「留学ビザ」は公式の名前じゃありません。

Second: The student visa! (Note: "student visa" is not the official name.)

日本の学校に留学する時も、ビザをもらうことができます。

たとえば、日本の大学に入学できたら、大学にいる期間のビザがもらえます。

言語学校や、大学院も同じです。

You can also get a visa when you study in Japan.For example, if you enter a Japanese university, you get a visa for the duration of your studies.It’s the same for language schools or graduate schools.

学校を卒業した後は、このビザはなくなります。

だから、もっと日本に長く住みたい人は、学校を卒業する前に日本での仕事を探した方がいいです。

After you graduate, this visa ends.So, if you want to stay longer in Japan, it’s better to find a job before you graduate.

3つ目：ワーキングホリデービザ！※「ワーキングホリデービザ」は公式の名前じゃありません。

Third: The working holiday visa! (Note: "working holiday visa" is not the official name.)

これは、18歳〜30歳の人だけが申し込めるビザです。

普通、1年間のビザをもらうことができます。

申し込む：to apply

普通：usually

This visa is only for people aged 18 to 30.Usually, you get a one-year visa.

そして、もっと長く働きたい場合は、この1年間で仕事を見つけて、「仕事ビザ」に切り替える必要があります。

もっと長く：longer

見つける：to find

切り替える：to switch

People with a working holiday visa can work full-time or part-time in Japan.If you want to work longer, you need to find a job during that year and switch to a work visa.

4つ目：結婚ビザ！※「結婚ビザ」は公式の名前じゃありません。

Fourth: The marriage visa! (Note: "marriage visa" is not the official name.)

日本人か、日本の永住権を持っている人と結婚したら、この「結婚ビザ」がもらえます。

結婚ビザは、最初は1年間のビザをもらうことが多いです。

永住権：permanent residency

結婚する：to get married

If you marry a Japanese person or a person with permanent residency in Japan, you can get this spouse visa.Usually, you get a one-year visa at first.

そして更新する時に、仕事や生活が安定していたら、3年間や5年間のビザをもらうことができます。

「結婚ビザ」を持っている人は、フルタイムやアルバイトで働くことができます。

更新する：to renew

When you renew it, if your work and life are stable, you can get a 3-year or 5-year visa. This is similar to the work visa.People with this spouse visa can work full-time or part-time.

1つ目は仕事ビザ、2つ目は留学ビザ、3つ目はワーキングホリデービザ、4つ目は結婚ビザ、この4つについて話しました。

I talked about these four types: first the work visa, second the student visa, third the working holiday visa, and fourth the marriage visa.
